My little one and I quickly nipped down to McDonalds in Worthing (yes a restaurant in Worthing I can get into) on Wednesday morning for a rare treat before school/work. Whilst I am not the biggest advocate of fast food or McDonalds, but a Sausage and Egg McMuffin does hit the spot on the odd occasion.

Just before we got to the door it was opened for us by a kindly person; the same gentleman moved a chair for me so I could sit at a table. After a few minutes we got talking; he explained he was homeless. Now personally homelessness sickens me, I cannot see why in this day and age anyone has to be homeless.

Now I have long thought there is a perfect location in Worthing Town Centre that could be used to house homeless people and at least give them the chance to put a life into place.

Now can anyone tell me why the old police station in Union Place still stands empty?

The official figures from Worthing Borough Council suggest Worthing has very few homeless people, but I would beg to differ. Anyway, I’m not going to pick a fight with WBC, all I am saying is why not use the old Police Station in a pro-active way rather than just leaving it empty?

Surely the powers that be in Worthing can do something good for members of the community that really could do with some help?

Instead of closing doors on the homeless, it would be so easy to open doors. The old Police Station in Union Place is waiting to be used; all it needs is someone in authority at Worthing Borough Council to show some iniatiative and open the doors to a building that can put a roof over the head of those that have to endure the elements 365 days a year.
