You have to love Bing for at least trying. In a world where corporates are easing up on spending truck loads of cash, the Microsoft juggernaut is happy to keep spending money developing and publicising Bing along with spending a stack of cash on Yahoo as well, oh to have money that Microsoft has

Bing and 301’s – what’s the deal?

So why is it the search engineers at Bing cannot get their heads around 301 Redirects in the SERPS?

The team at Fresh Egg have been working on a URI tidy up on AirandWaterCentre.com in recent months, but if you are Bing you would not think this is the case as the following search results show Microsoft’s search engine making a right pigs ear of reading the 301 instruction and is still showing the old URI’s.

Bing 301’s – Is it rocket science for Microsoft?

So how is that Bing is getting is so wrong when Google get’s this sort of thing so right? The use of 301’s is not a revered technique held exclusively by the SEO community, it is simply a technique and one that a major search engine which has had millions of pounds thrown at in development should get right at a canter.

So why does Bing continue to show the old URI’s when the new versions have been in place for a sustained period of time now? It’s really frustrating and another reason why search professionals will not sing the praise of the product. Why would they, when it is not getting elementary things correct?

Bing vs Google

I am sure Bing has some good qualities, it’s just that as yet I am not really seeing the Bing love coming through.

For anyone who is lapping up a bit of Bing love, can you tell me why you are subjecting yourself to an inferior search product at this time?

Here’s the same site following the URI clean-up, but as reported (correctly) by Google.

It was intesting on Friday at the SEO Workshop to hear a few voices saying that Google were spreading themselves to thin and were maybe taking their eye off the ball. That may be the case, but when your main competitor is not challenging with any conviction you can afford to relax a little. Many thanks to Jaamit at Fresh Egg for bringing this to my attention and giving me the opportunity to have a go at my unfavourite tech company Microsoft.
