I was only saying to Tony G the other day that I thought James McAvoy (of Shameless fame) was a great actor; now after seeing the film Inside I’m Dancing, I know he is a great actor. It was only by chance that I came to watch the film. I should have been in bed after a long drive back from Devon where I had enjoyed a few days down at TLH Torquay Leisure Hotels.

Film – Long story short – the film highlights the inadequacies of the inept systems in place for people who have the misfortune of suffering from a disability.

The two lead actors – Steven Robertson and the aforementioned James McAvoy were exceptional. They played their roles with 100% believability and did anyone who suffers from a disability nothing but absolute justice.

Even now people born with a disability, or those who suffer a illness that may render them disabled are nothing short of institutionalized. Whilst things have got better for disabled people in the 18 years I have been in a wheelchair, I will say to not believe the hype that anyone in Government is actually interested in helping disabled people, because from my perspective it is simply not true.

If you have seen the film then I hope it struck a chord with you; because for many disabled people, the life that is portrayed in the film for the two main characters in a home for the disabled is as it is, they are simply not given the chance to live a fulfilled life.

There are a great many disabled people who don’t like it when able-bodied people play the parts of disabled people. But both lead actors do a convincing, heart rendering job of making you believe they have lived with the disabilities they were portraying all their lives.

For just 90 minutes step into the world of disability; check out Inside I’m Dancing. Then after the 90 minutes has elapsed you can thank your lucky stars you don’t have to put up with being suppressed just because you happen to not be perceived as “normal”.
